St. Albert
WOLVERINES
VOLLEYBALL CLUB
ESTABLISHED 2022

Welcome to the home of the St Albert Wolverines (SAW) Volleyball Club, geared to training male and female youth in the sport of volleyball. Founded in 1861, The City of St Albert is located on the banks of the Sturgeon River and is known as The Botanic Arts City. St Albert was voted the “#1 Best Small City to Live in Canada” by MoneySense magazine in 2014 and 2016. We are proud to call St. Albert our home and look forward to developing young athletes through the sport of volleyball.
St. Albert Wolverines Volleyball Club is committed to providing young athletes in St. Albert, Sturgeon County and North Edmonton with high-quality volleyball training in a climate that emphasizes mutual respect among players, coaches and officials in a positive learning environment that fosters personal growth and development and a passion for the game of volleyball. Given the enormous financial pressures felt by families in St Albert today, our goal is to keep our programs affordable to all.
In 2023 and 2024, the Wolverines Volleyball Club offered a Skills Camp for youth ages 12-14 in St. Albert during the months of May and June. These were very successful camp as the athletes improved immensely from the quality coaching and individual attention that they received. Our intention is to continue running these camps for our athletes in St. Albert. We want to offer our athletes more than just the opportunity of playing on a team. Our goal is to develop elite athletes within our club.
We also ran two U13 teams (male and female) in 2024 that represented St. Albert with pride at the provincial tournaments held in Red Deer, Calgary and Edmonton.
We are proud to be a member of Volleyball Alberta.
successful club year 2024/2025

This season was one for the books as our team showcased outstanding skill, determination, and teamwork. Competing at the highest level, we secured gold medals in both the Premier 1 (Division 2) and Premier 2 (Division 1, Blue) tournaments, proving our ability to perform under pressure and rise to the occasion. At the Provincial tournament, we battled fiercely against tough competition and earned a silver medal (Division 1, Blue) finishing 10th overall for the year—a testament to our hard work and growth throughout the season.
Much of this success can be attributed to the coaches’ dedication to skill development, team camaraderie, and a balanced focus on both offense and defense. Their approach refined our ability to execute simple yet powerful attacks while maintaining a strong defensive presence, ensuring that we could adapt to any challenge on the court. This level of success couldn’t have been achieved without the commitment of both Assistant coaches, Troy Bruce and Dereck Porret. They were instrumental in ensuring that all the boys developed their volleyball and leadership skills throughout the year.
Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of the season was the immense improvement shown by every player. Through tireless effort and a commitment to refining skills, the team evolved both individually and collectively, setting the foundation for even greater achievements in the future.
Volleyball is a fast-paced and highly strategic game, and a strong coaching presence is crucial for guiding athletes toward their full potential. A coach’s patience plays a big role in skill development, as refining techniques like hitting, serving, setting, passing and blocking takes time and repetition. Preparation, from studying opponents to structuring effective training sessions, ensures athletes are ready to perform at their best. Great coaches foster teamwork, mental resilience, and a culture of continuous improvement, making all the difference on and off the court.
Carrying forward the lessons learned, the bonds built, and the collective determination to improve will undoubtedly set the stage for even greater success. We look forward to adding athletes who share the same work ethic and attitude which will strengthen the team culture and push everyone to new levels.

The Wolverines U13B volleyball team wrapped up an incredible season, showcasing dedication, teamwork, and growth. Through relentless practice and commitment, the boys came together as a strong, united squad, culminating in their highest-ever finish at provincials, placing 10th overall. Their success wasn’t just measured in victories but in the bonds they built—whether on the court, during team suppers, or at hotel pool gatherings. With a solid foundation and unshakable camaraderie, the Wolverines U13B are already looking ahead, eager to push even further next season.
